The objective of meditation is to calm down the body and the mind. There are several meditation techniques:
When and for how long? Regular meditation offers the best result – ideally you should try to meditate every day. You can choose to meditate at any time of day, but the best time is in the morning – the energy is stronger and fresher at this time. The traditionally time for meditation and qigong is at sunrise.
There is no set duration of time that you need to mediate for, although 20 minutes is often recommended. When you are just beginning to meditate, five minutes can be enough. It is better to successfully manage a short period of time, than to fail with a longer one.
Noisy thoughts In the beginning, you might notice that your mind is wandering and you're having a hard time focusing. This is ok - this is a sign that the meditation is working, as you begin to come in contact with the internal “bothering” you usually do not notice during the busy day. When your mind wanders, stop and refocus. After a while these thoughts and feelings will calm down. The length of time that it takes for this calming to occur may differ from person to person – don’t be discouraged if it takes you more time than someone else.
How to learn meditation It is possible to learn meditation by yourself, but it is preferable to have a teacher.
The effect Meditation is an effective way to reduce physical and mental stress:
Many people with high blood pressure show improvements with meditation.
Advice If you have any mental health problems, you ought to consult the doctor before you start to meditate. Some people experience anxiety and worry (without any reason) the first few times they meditate. Usually this settles after a while.
